Growing Volunteers for Good
Volunteering at Waitaki Community Gardens will probably change your life :-).
This is a really special place that is extraordinary at growing good stuff.
And by good stuff, we mean great, fresh, organic produce along with life skills, friendships and fun.
We’re funded by donations and grants (although we’re working on some new ideas to generate sustainable revenue). That means every volunteer hour adds a little more magic into the mix – whether that’s gardening time or helping us grow a more sustainable, healthier, happier community behind the scenes.
Our volunteers come in all shapes and sizes from all walks of life. We have volunteers in the gardens who know a lot about gardening and some who are just starting to learn. We have volunteers working behind the scenes in their own expert fields and others who are volunteering to learn new skills (like admin and marketing). There really is a role for everyone with us.
Remember, every bit of skill and support you give (or gain) goes to helping make our community stronger – you have so many options to help us make Oamaru and the wider Waitaki region an even more awesome place to live, work and play.
Here’s some ways to help that you might want to consider:
Weekly Working Bee
We have a weekly working bee on Wednesdays from 1-3pm. You can just turn up and jump in with our friendly gardening volunteers led by our fabulous Volunteer & Site Coordinator, Ra. Whether you know a lot about gardening or a little, we promise you’ll have a great time!
Behind the Scenes Support
We always can use extra support behind the scenes – admin, fundraising, marketing, building and maintenance, plumbing, health and safety, cleaning, rabbit hunting… the list goes on. If you have a skill and you’re willing to donate time and / or expertise – please think of us, we’d love to have you on board. To see the roles we need some help with now – click here.
Heeding the Call
From time to time we put out a call to the community for a specific project that needs all hands on deck. That could be propagating, planting, weed whacking, mowing, building, fundraising or more… We put out a call for help on our Facebook page as well as our website.
Don’t have time but want to help? We’re not too proud to take your money. We use donations to fund our work and volunteers expenses (we want to make sure they feel appreciated). Your donations help keep us together as a stronger more capable community. Donate here.
